Carlos Tevez will be able to complete his move to Manchester United after West Ham and the player's agent Kia Joorabchian agreed a £2 million deal to release him from his contract at Upton Park.
Under the terms of the agreement, MSI and Just Sports Inc, the two companies who own Tevez's economic rights, will pay West Ham £2 million to effectively buy him out of the remainder of his contract.West Ham said in a statement: "The settlement ends the current litigation taking place between the respective parties and provides for a £2million fee to be paid to West Ham."The agreement confirms that West Ham do have a valid player's contract with Carlos Tevez and hold the registration of the player. This will be released once the agreed fee has been paid to the club."The terms of the settlement are consistent with undertakings given by West Ham United to the Premier League and the rules of The Football Association."
As part of the settlement, Joorabchian has agreed to acknowledge that West Ham did in fact own the player's registration and had a three-year contract with the 23-year-old striker.
At the same time, he has agreed to halt his £30 million High Court action against the club for ripping up the third-party agreements with MSI and Just Sports to enable Tevez to play in the climax to last season's Premiership campaign.
A statement from Joorachian said: "The agreement brings an end to the legal proceedings started by us against West Ham United in the High Court last week."Our primary concern has always been to resolve this issue amicably and to allow Carlos to pursue his ambition to play for Manchester United."Carlos is looking forward to being a Manchester United player and his ambition is close to being achieved."
West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson is equally relieved the dispute has reached an amicable conclusion. He said: "I am obviously pleased that we have finally reached the end of this saga through agreement and common sense.
"All parties involved can now move on and truly focus on the new season."I wish Carlos Tevez well for the next stage of his playing career. He is a fine player and I am sure he will be successful wherever he plays football."Tevez is now free to sign for United after having a medical at the club today after the Premier League said they were satisfied that West Ham had behaved in line with their undertakings when they terminated the third-part deals with Joorabchian in April.
